Nissan cube – Day 1

It’s certainly different.   Incidentally, even its name is different – it’s “cube” as in cube with a small “c” – so hold off on those emails telling me I spelled the name incorrectly :)

So is the 2009 cube – with a small “c”  – from Nissan a real player or simply a novelty?

For my money, it’s certainly a novel newcomer to the future of personalised travel.  At the 2009 Canadian International Auto Show, we were introduced to some passenger vehicles that could exceed the legal speed limit in Ontario 3 times over and still have room to maneuver.  Impressive for sure, but are these vehicles practical on Canadian roads and highway?  Methinks not.  It struck me on the way home from the Auto Show while we were stuck in traffic creeping along between zero and 40 km/h, how impractical 5 or 6 hundred hp would have actually been.  The reality is, we do do not have Autobahn style highways in Canada.  We are headed in a different direction, and the Nissan cube may very well be one of those vehicles that leads the way.

Despite the cube’s unual style, it appears to be a very well thought out vehicle, with room enough for 5 adults.  While I’m not a big fan of sitting three aduls abreast in passenger vehicles, Nissan did manage to fit 5 Toronto Argonaut footballers into the cube at the Toronto Autoshow to make a point.
